Generic Drug for Lipitor now Available

A new generic drug called atorvastatin is now available for the brand name Lipitor, Lipitor is a drug that is often used to help lower ones cholesterol level. This is good news for all as it would treat the same but at a much lower cost. With most insurance agencies, drugs fall into three different groups, called tiers, based on their cost. The lower the tier, the lower the cost. Atorvastatin is in tier 1 while Lipitor is in tier 3.

Breast Cancer Drug Revoked

A breast cancer drug, Avastin, has been revoked due to a few different reasons. First off, Avastin has recently been used as a drug in advanced breast cancer patients. However, since there is no substantial proof that it extends their lives and along with it having some potentially dangerous side effects, it has been revoked.

Be careful though because doctors may still prescribe you to use this drug, but your insurance provider may no longer pay for it. Just to give you an idea, a year's treatment with Avastin can cost of upwards to $100,000.
